2011 Conference What will you do

Page history last edited by Frank Broen 12 years, 8 months ago

3. What are you going to do when you get back home with anything you learned or need?

  1. Share information in an informal lunch meeting with coworkers. (Municipal engineering consultant).
  2. Discuss how roundabouts can be at least considered for all of our project. (Consulting firm – project engineer).
  3. Report back to the provincial officials of the findings as our provinces in the process of adopting roundabouts as a component of our policy. Continue to research/contact others on multilane roundabouts and share experience related to roundabouts. (Traffic engineer – consultant).
  4. I will popularize roundabouts in Japan. (Consulting engineer and planner).
  5. Applying knowledge gains to future designs. Use new tools to promote the use of roundabouts to both public and public officials. (Traffic consultant).
  6. Continue to recommend roundabouts whenever possible. Continue to discuss and promote to pieces [not sure of last two words]. (Traffic engineer/ consultant).
  7. Look at roundabouts as an alternative to traffic signals. (Project engineer/consultant).
  8. Talk to staff about information. (Designer/planner).
  9. look into promoting local education and promoting roundabouts more. Promote getting rid of the myths. (Senior designer).
  10. Look at redesigning the one two – Lane roundabout in my neighborhood. Share the information with elected officials. (Design engineer).
  11. Share a lot of knowledge learned with more officials, engineers and the public to try to get them more accepted. (Designer of roundabouts and highways).
  12. Continue discussing with appropriate authorities to ensure positive enforcement of roundabouts is a good option for intersection treatment. (Professional engineer – planner and designer).
  13. Look at intersections (carefully!) to find good placement of roundabout. (Design engineer).
  14. Further review policy and procedures and possibly identify possible candidates [for roundabouts?]. (Design manager).
  15. Push our central office to provide the training needed so we can design in-house instead of shipping the design out to a consultant. Push for software that is needed. (Design engineer).
  16. implement and promote roundabouts with clients as well as coworkers. Ensure proper site selection when recommending roundabouts. (Transportation designer).
  17. “Brown Bags” with coworkers to share knowledge. ( design engineer).
  18. Shared with coworkers. Incorporate some of this information into public education efforts. (Senior engineer – consultant).
  19. Try to promote a roundabout first policy to local municipality. (Consulting engineer).
  20. More promotion to our public clients to consider roundabouts as a design solution, including INDOT. (Consultant – road department manager).
  21. Use as a option for intersection design. (Designer).
  22. Look for locations in my area to propose a roundabout. (Geometric design engineer).
  23. I'll share this information with my coworkers and refocus some of my efforts based on what I've learned. (Engineering consultant).
  24. Look at further calibration to simulation models. Do an overview of fast path overlap on roundabouts in the design phase. (Roundabout designer/Project manager).
  25. Implement Lane continuity ideas on multilane roundabout design. Visit County officials to talk about roundabout [unreadable word]. (Senior project manager/lead designer).
  26. Revised my public information presentation for roundabouts with learned items. (Consultant).
  27. See number one. Also, will do some research on roundabouts presented. (Designer).

No occupation specified

  1. Send links to upper management of the conference. Try to highlight some presentations that deal with trucks and better designs.
  2. [Added, and at bottom of page] Solve the blind pedestrian issue!
  3. Tell friends (and guys in the office),the importance of the roundabout and tell them roundabouts are more economical and causeless crashes in numbers and severity.
  4. Think about how to educate in Japan.
  5. I will tell summary of conference to my boss.
  6. Perform inventory of intersections where roundabouts are appropriate. Conduct more research considering roundabouts as an alternative.
  7. Educate others about roundabouts.
  8. Look for locations to use roundabouts to replace signals or improve intersection safety. Other research.
  9. Get a plan to talk to the County. I have a roundabout project with and discuss the public outreach to get the roundabout approved.
  10. Work on drivers simulation to educate and inform the public and designers of the implications of their designs on new users.

Academia/Grad Students

  1. Try to adapt some of my previous design criteria to the new suggested ones. (Prof. of transportation and traffic engineering).
  2. More research and papers geared at filling in these research gaps. Reach out to students to get more involved and engaged in these research topics. (Researcher/academia).
  3. Share information with other coworkers and classmates at the University. (Student/research).
  4. Implement concepts learned. (Graduate engineer – transportation).
  5. Develop a dissertation. I did. (Graduate student).
  6. Plan to collect a lot more data on existing roundabouts and plan to do this long-term. When not available, collect the same data on regular intersections and prove or disprove that there are differences. Work on developing microscopic models that do roundabouts instead of fudging them  as special cases of T – intersections or other older geometries. (Researcher)
  7. More work about mini roundabouts. Left ( assistant professor).
  8. I'll explain this conference that 350 people attended in order to change the mind of persons related to road traffic, construction and management [in my country I think he means]. What did this committee due to increase the attendance? (University professor).
  9. Share the latest information with local MPOs, State DOT District and city engineers. Include roundabouts in class material. (Professor)
  10. Write a  newsletter article, have a poster session on roundabouts at our statewide conference and have a presentation at our annual safety
