ADA Roundabout Issues

For a beginning look at how roundabouts can be navigated by the sighted impaired, watch this 96 minute Workshop:

There are at least 8 other presentations on ADA Issues from the 2008 Roundabout Conference.

You can access Sessions 6A and 9A here: http://teachamerica.com/RAB08/index.html

I hope you are able to contribute to the discussion. It is my perception that the roundabout champions and mobility specialists are finding much common ground to work together to promote roundabouts. In my opinion, single lane roundabouts are clearly safer for everyone. Multi-lane roundabouts are much more challenging– much like that of the common cold. There are many strategies, and but no single ‘cure’. When we dictate a solution that is as expensive as sending a patient to the hospital for a cold, we are doing a disservice to everyone. When we give an aspirin to someone with a serious condition, we are also failing to be responsive.

You can stand on your soapbox here. The passions run high – each group feeling strongly about the benefits of their cause. I hope you learn more, and become part of the discussion and the solution. It will take a community working together to improve our transportation systems.
