Wisconsin for example constructed, or will construct, average 5 multi-lane roundabouts per year from 2004 thru 2006, 9 in 2007, 7 in 2008, 17 in 2009, 16 in 2010, 31 in 2011, 31 in 2012 multi-lane roundabouts. Based on the increase in roundabout design/operation/safety knowledge and skills of various local, county and state agencies there will be substantially more multi-lane roundabouts constructed per year than 27 nationwide stated in the Proposed Accessibility Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public rights-of-way.
In Wisconsin the communities with a population larger than 50,000, considering the metro area were not included in the following numbers. There are many communities less than 50,000 population that have multi-lane roundabouts. There are, or will be, 125 multi-lane roundabouts constructed in Wisconsin between 2004 and 2012. There are 57 of those 125 multi-lane roundabouts constructed in communities with less than 50,000 population (45 percent), typically far less than 50,000. Another mis-estimated number of roundabouts in small communities in the Proposed Accessibility Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public rights-of-way.
